About the show

In June 2010 Ghosts will be presenting ‘Spring Awakening: A Children’s Tragedy’ by Frank Wedekind. This groundbreaking 1890’s play was hugely ahead of its time (banned in England until 1963) and recently became a Tony Award winning musical. Much of the appeal of the play is in its comedy: the characters are often shockingly amoral, or ridiculous in their adult rigidity. It deals with timeless themes addressing the individual problems of puberty, of adapting to the adult world, of the sacrifice of the needs of childhood, of frustration and of moments of happiness for both sexes. It is set against a backdrop of religious and parental oppression and looks at the misuse of authority and the failure of adults to equip their children for reality.

Spring Awakening is a wonderful theatrical experience. It is both incredibly funny and deeply moving.

About the auditions

The audition day was incredible and every single person that auditioned displayed excellent characterisation and took direction extremely well... leaving us with a very, very difficult decision process. I would like to thank everyone for making the effort to come along on Sunday and for really throwing themselves into the workshop and i really hope everyone enjoyed themselves.

Thank you all for your support and i hope you all continue to follow the progress of this rare and exciting production.

A very delighted director,
Jenny
